Over the years, there have been many parents of celebs who have decided to share too much information with the media, causing them to betray their famous child’s trust and destroy their bond. But there have also been incidents where unkind remarks, like those made by Angelina Jolie’s father, have resulted in a strained relationship, or celebs like Drew Barrymore and Ariel Winter realized they wanted to cut their parents out of their life from a young age and requested to be emancipated. There are many reasons for family drama, and while some of these women have managed to mend their broken relationships, others are still not speaking to their family members, decades after the incident that led to their estrangement.

Below are 15 celebs who have had incredibly tense relationships with their parents, and let’s just say that most of the women on this list won’t be sending out Christmas cards to their parent, let alone celebrating them on Mother’s Day or Father’s Day.

15. Meg Ryan Cut Her Mother Out Her Life For Criticizing Her (Now Ex) Husband

Meg Ryan married fellow actor Dennis Quaid on Valentine’s Day of 1991, but not everyone was shipping their romance. It turns out Ryan’s mom, Susan Jordan, was no fan of Quaid. According to The Mirror, the relationship between Ryan and Jordan had been tense since Ryan was a teenager after Jordan reportedly left Ryan’s father.

Things worsened when Ryan decided not to invite her mother to her wedding because her mother had been critical of her husband.

Jordan reportedly told People magazine (via The Mirror) in 1993, that she had hopes of reconciling with her daughter, saying, “I wish there would be forgiveness. To be frank, I pray for it. It’s a painful business to be estranged from your child.” Then in 2000, Jordan spoke to New York Post about the relationship she had with her daughter, saying, “I began reading all these falsehoods and lies about me in the press after she met Dennis Quaid. These were lies constructed by my daughter in order to enhance her image – and certainly to protect Dennis Quaid.”

Jordan’s comments about Ryan came around the same time Ryan’s relationship was ending with Quaid, and the couple officially divorced in 2001, after ten years of marriage. But despite Ryan’s relationship with Quaid coming to an end, the frost between herself and her mother did not appear to thaw.
