14. Jennifer Aniston’s Mom, Nancy Dow, Loved Speaking To The Press
Jennifer Aniston is yet another star who had a strained relationship with a parent. Although this tension has less to do with a man and more to do with the fact that Aniston’s mother, Nancy Dow, was a little too eager to speak to the press about their relationship. Us Weekly reports that Dow also discussed her relationship with her daughter in her 1999 memoir, From Mother And Daughter To Friends: A Memoir. This fallout meant that Dow was not invited to Aniston’s first wedding to Brad Pitt in 2000.
When her mother had a stroke in 2011, Aniston reportedly rushed to her side, The Mirrorreports. But it was not easy for these two women to mend their broken relationship, a relationship which Aniston spoke about in a 2015 interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Speaking of her mother, she said, “She was critical. She was very critical of me. Because she was a model, she was gorgeous, stunning. I wasn’t. I never was. I honestly still don’t think of myself in that sort of light, which is fine. She was also very unforgiving. She would hold grudges that I just found so petty.” In the same interview, Aniston acknowledged that they were “fine” at the time.
13. Angelina Jolie And Jon Voight Have A Tense Relationship
When Angelina Jolie was a toddler, her father, Jon Voight, left her mother, Marcheline Bertrand. But according to Closer Weekly, despite the divorce, Voight continued to have a relationship with his daughter. However, things got really bad for them in 2002, when Voight commented on his daughter’s mental state in an interview with Access Hollywood. This happened around the time of Jolie’s split from second husband, Billy Bob Thornton, and Voight declared that she had “mental problems” adding, “I’ve been trying to reach my daughter and get her help, and I have failed and I’m sorry. Really I haven’t come forward and addressed the serious mental problems she has spoken about so candidly to the press over the years, but I’ve tried behind the scenes in every way.”
This moment changed their relationship, and the pair did not speak for years, although they are said to have started to reconcile after Jolie’s mother’s passing.
In 2015, Closer Weekly claims a friend revealed that Voight finally apologized to Jolie at the premiere of her film, By the Sea.
Jolie and Voight have put aside their differences now, and in a 2017 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actress said, “Jon and I have gotten to know each other — through grandchildren now — [and] we’re finding a new relationship. We’ve had some difficulties, [but] through art we’ve been able to talk. It’s the common language.”
